Overview

The Raspberry Pi 5 asks more of its power supply than any board before it. This official 27 W USB-C Power Delivery supply answers that properly, delivering up to 5.1 V at 5 A so the board can run demanding peripherals without dipping into under-voltage.

There is a concrete benefit to using it: when the Pi 5 detects a USB-C PD supply of this capability, it automatically raises the total current available across its four USB ports to a nominal 1.6 A. With a smaller adapter the Pi caps that budget, and bus-powered drives are the first thing to suffer.
